How to be civilized in “civilized” society
A guy saw a car leaving the parking spot, give his signal and waited for the car to move until suddenly this lady decided to enter the spot out of nowhere. He took his phone out, start to film his confrontation with the lady who stole his parking spot. It becomes viral.
A man saw another man scolding his child who has just fell off the trolley in the mall. Instead of approaching the man for help, he decided to film the whole incident and put the man to shame. Viral it.
Our society has begin to be easily offended, too defensive yet insensitive when it comes to spreading the sin of others. We misuse social media as a platform to publicly humiliate others but at the same time when it comes to our own mistake, we want others to be considerate and take us as human. To err is human only applies to us, never others.
To err is human only applies to us, never others.
Social media is never to be blamed for the level of irresponsibility we’ve been using it. Social media IS a brilliant platform to spread awareness and strong messages to help build the society’s understanding on so many issues, including this issue of Social Media Abuse.
How many of us has this idea of filming certain act because we feel so angry towards one person’s action and there’s nothing more we can do about it?
Unless if it’s a crime, please keep yourself from falling into the trap of Satan to viral video of another human committing error. Not in the form of filming, nor in the form of spreading. What you can do is to approach the person and offer him advice. If you saw a crime, never act on your own. Always report the crime to the authority.
News of people bashing a guy who is accused of being a rapist until he was found dead is not an act of a civilize society. Whilst in India, the society there chose to stand and watch girls being raped right in front of their eyes, we can be this well-mannered society by interfering to stop the barbaric act and hand the culprit to the authority.
It’s crazy enough we have to tell people NOT to rape. WHAT??? But it’s even crazier that people think everyone has the license to kill.
SO WHAT CAN WE DO?
One can be a good, civilized citizen by interrupting an attempt of crime; be it rape, molest, robbery, even BULLY.
1.Put oneself into safety first
Never underestimate to what extend the doer can go into harming you. Understand the priority to make sure you are safe before offering the help to others.
2. Try to stop the misdeed
Do not be a coward buy turning your face away from those in need. Imagine if he or she is your own brother or sister, or father or mother; you would wish others would be in help. You have to help them.
3. Gather a number of people for assistance
In this case, size does matters. A number of people will ease the process of seizing (if relevant) the accused. Strongly discontinue any act of contravene.
4. ALWAYS call the authority
Finally, leave it the people of laws. A good human respects another mankind’s rights to be heard. Any accused is innocent until proven guilty
Taking matters in your own hands applies with this step. Let’s stay civilize.
